Indonesia seeks private investment to meet E20 bioethanol target

July 20, 2026 |

In Indonesia, Antara News reports the government is encouraging private companies to build bioethanol plants as it works toward a nationwide E20 gasoline blend by 2028. Energy officials said revisions to Presidential Regulation No. 40 of 2023 will support higher blending capacity and provide a stronger policy framework for investment. The government estimates new ethanol plants can be built within 18 months but emphasized that expanding feedstock supplies remains a key challenge. President Prabowo Subianto has called for construction of 30 to 50 ethanol plants to support Indonesia’s biofuel ambitions.
