Malaysia expands green hydrogen ecosystem beyond Sarawak
In Malaysia, The Malaysian Reserve reported that the government is broadening Malaysia’s green hydrogen ecosystem beyond Sarawak as it seeks to establish the country as a regional hydrogen economy leader through coordinated national policies, new industrial hubs and stronger collaboration between the federal and state governments.
Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Minister Datuk Dr Mohammad Yusof Apdal (picture) said the development is guided by the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR) 2023-2050, which provides the national framework for hydrogen production, storage, transportation, utilization and market development.
He said Sarawak has played a central role in the formulation and implementation of the roadmap since 2020, with the state government, the Sarawak Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty), MOSTI, and the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) participating in key implementation clusters.
“In addition to supporting the hydrogen ecosystem in Sarawak through strategic platforms such as the Hydrogen Economy Forum and the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference, the government is also strengthening governance through the development of hydrogen standards, regulations and licensing frameworks, including the Guarantee of Origin certification scheme,” Mohammad Yusof said.
“Through a whole-of-government approach and close cooperation with the Sarawak government, we remain committed to realizing the aspiration of making Sarawak the leading green hydrogen hub in Southeast Asia while strengthening Malaysia’s position in the regional hydrogen economy,” he added.
