Brazilian ethanol production for corn jumps

July 2, 2026 |

In Brazil, driven by economic factors and technological advances, the production of national corn ethanol recorded an extraordinary jump: from 500 million liters in 2017 to 6.3 billion liters in the last crop, with official projection of the National Union of Corn Ethanol (Unem) of reaching 7.3 billion liters in the 2024/2025 cycle.

Unlike the model adopted in the United States, which uses natural gas in the manufacturing process, Brazilian plants use biomass for power generation. In addition to mitigating the environmental impacts, the use of second crop corn (safrinha) raises the sustainability and agricultural efficiency of the country on the international stage.
