EBB and FEDIOL support EU Parliament committee’s attempt to secure EU soy under RED

July 1, 2026 |

In Belgium, European Biodiesel Board and FEDIOL welcomed last week’s ITRE Committee adoption of the important EPP-ECR Motion for Objection to Delegated Act 2026/2680. This delegated act threatens the viability of EU soy cultivation and processing based on a flawed methodology within the framework of the Renewable Energy Directive. It is now the responsibility of the European Parliament Plenary to ensure policy coherence between the EU regulatory framework governing production of crop-based biofuels and the EU protein autonomy ambitions: namely the soon-to-be published Commission Protein Plan and the ongoing revision of the Common Market Organization Regulation (CMO II – EU Protein crops sector). Considering the strategic role soy processing plays for enhancing EU food security and having regard to the serious consequences for the EU-based farming and processing sectors, we urge the European Parliament Plenary to object to the Delegated Regulation. EBB and FEDIOL stand ready to engage with the Members of the European Parliament in order to gather the absolute majority needed to object to this Delegated Act.
