LG Chem to demonstrate SAF production using CO2
In Korea, The Elec reported that Korean company LG Chem will demonstrate a technology that converts carbon dioxide into sustainable aviation fuel.
LG Chem that it will participate in a carbon dioxide-to-fuel demonstration project as part of the Ministry of Science and ICT’s Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) Mega Project. The company will serve as the lead organization and work with partners including Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Korea Institute of Science and Technology, and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology through 2030, according to the report.
Under the project, LG Chem will demonstrate a process that reacts captured carbon dioxide with green hydrogen to synthesize fuel, followed by additional refining steps to produce e-SAF.
Shim Kyu-seok, chief technology officer and senior vice president of LG Chem, said, “By advancing CO2 conversion technologies, we will improve the efficiency of e-SAF production and strengthen competitiveness in carbon-reduction technologies for the aviation industry.”
