In Spain, Industria Ambiente reports the Council of Ministers has approved, on the proposal of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), the Royal Decree that establishes the regulatory framework for the call for auctions aimed at granting the specific remuneration regime to industrial cogeneration facilities.

The measure will allow the award of 1,200 MW of power for the renovation of the existing cogeneration park, through high-efficiency plants that operate with natural gas or biomass, and that are prepared to incorporate at least 10% of renewable hydrogen in their consumption.

According to the Government, this initiative is part of the update of the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) 2023-2030, which seeks to strengthen the efficiency of the electricity system, improve the flexibility of the industry and advance the decarbonization objectives.
