Petrobras produces and commercializes first CORSIA low ILUC SAF

June 23, 2026 |

In Brazil, Petrobras completed the production and commercialization of the first batch of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) produced from soybean oil with CORSIA low-risk certification ILUC, which attests to sustainability criteria and lower risk of impact on new areas. The volume marketed, of 3.8 thousand m3, was obtained by co-processing at the Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc), in Rio de Janeiro, with 1% renewable content in the composition. This percentage is in line with the obligations imposed by the Future Fuel Act to reduce emissions from domestic aviation to the early years.

To produce the lot, Petrobras acquired from Bunge, a supplier company, certified soybean oil in CORSIA Low ILUC Risk, a program of the International Civil Aviation Organization to limit greenhouse gas emissions from aviation.

The batch produced by Petrobras was marketed with Vibra, expanding the supply of fuels with renewable content to the aviation market. With this new campaign, the company adds a new certified raw material for the production of SAF, guaranteed flexibility for the production process and maintaining the company’s commitment to the search for sustainable raw materials and that allow the significant reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
