European Commission officially launches the Biomethane Mechanism
In Belgium, the European Commission has officially launched the Biomethane Mechanism, a key initiative under the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform. Designed to accelerate the growth of Europe’s biomethane market, the mechanism is a voluntary, free of charge and innovative tool. The mechanism aims to help companies, investors and other stakeholders to find partners, develop biomethane projects and create new business opportunities. It will also provide access to information about regulatory conditions at national and EU level and links to different financing opportunities at local and regional level. With geopolitical instability and ongoing pressure on energy markets, the Commission is adamant that a domestic, storable, and sustainable energy source can help reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and strengthen Europe’s energy resilience.
