ORLEN teams with Poznań researchers to develop camelina for biofuels production
In Poland, ORLEN has started cooperation with the University of Life Sciences in Poznań on the project of developing optimal conditions for growing flaxseed (Camelina sativa) for the production of biofuels. The initiative supports the development of the domestic supply chain of raw materials for alternative fuels, increases the potential of Polish agriculture and implements the ORLEN strategy in the area of energy transformation and reduction of emissions in transport.
The ORLEN Inter-Fire-For Biofuels programme integrates farmers, industry and technology partners, supporting the development of domestic raw materials – especially for second-generation biofuels.
The project, implemented jointly with the University of Life Sciences in Poznań, focuses on the development of optimal conditions for the cultivation of advanced raw materials, available locally, such as sowing flax – a plant with high potential for the biofuels sector. It will allow to assess the possibilities of wider use of this raw material in the production of transport and aviation fuels based on own production technologies, including the recently launched HVO installation in Płock.
