Exolum supplying SAF to Madeira airport
In Portugal, Exolum has started the operation of the storage and distribution facilities of aviation fuels and the hydrant network at the Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport in Madeira, in Portugal, managed by ANA (VINCI Group). The company will invest more than 4.5 million euros until 2029 in the construction of new infrastructures aimed at increasing the storage capacity of the plant to 1,300 m3. The contract provides for an initial duration of seven years, with the possibility of extension up to nine years.
The scope of the project includes the comprehensive operation of the fuel storage plant (fuel farm), currently composed of six horizontal tanks, as well as the hydrant system, with more than one kilometer in length and 32 supply points. Exolum will also lead the design and execution of new infrastructures aimed at increasing storage capacity and improving the operational efficiency of the facility.
The project will be developed in several phases and will include the construction of new tanks, the progressive modernization of existing facilities and the implementation of advanced control and safety systems. This investment will allow to raise to 5 days the autonomy of the airport and will also facilitate the implementation of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) in Madeira.
