Carnival Jubilee refuels with LNG in Honduras
In Honduras, Carnival Corporation, government officials and industry partners introduced LNG bunkering at Isla Tropicale in Roatán on June 1, using a mobile fueling system to refuel Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Jubilee.
The operation gives Latin America and the Western Caribbean a cruise LNG refueling point, a fuel infrastructure move rather than a new vessel announcement. Roatán’s location lets LNG-capable ships take on fuel while staying close to Western Caribbean itineraries, reducing the need to detour for bunkering elsewhere. Carnival said LNG is one of the maritime industry’s more available and commercially scalable lower-emission fuels, and the company now has 11 LNG-capable cruise ships in operation, with seven more expected by the end of 2033. For Honduras, the bunkering setup places Roatán inside a small but growing map of ports able to serve LNG-fueled cruise traffic.
