Iowa governor signs bill into law opening door for ethanol-fueled farm machinery
In Iowa, Brownfield Ag News reports Governor Kim Reynolds has signed into law Senate File 2493 that drops the excise tax on E85 and higher ethanol blends when used for for agricultural machinery, opening the way for ethanol-powered tractors and other agricultural equipment, such as the John Deere E98 Ethanol Prototype 8R tractor that has 350 horsepower. John Deere says the tractor has diesel-like performance but an Iowa farmer who had been testing it out says it’s even better than diesel and cheaper to run.
