X-Press Feeders takes first ethanol bunker at Port of Rotterdam in biomethanol blend
In the Netherlands in late May, X-Press Feeders’ container ship Eco Levant received a bunker of 90% ISCC EU-certified biomethanol and 10% ISCC EU-certified second-generation ethanol at the Port of Rotterdam from inland barge MTS Experience, marking the port’s first ethanol bunkering and one of the first such operations worldwide for a seagoing vessel.
X-Press Feeders, the world’s largest independent feeder carrier, operates Eco Levant and has run the vessel on the blend since. Barge operator Tankmatch delivered both fuels separately; batches were mixed aboard the receiving vessel.
Port of Rotterdam commercial director Matthijs van Doorn said the port aims to enable bunkering of all alternative low-carbon fuels, fulfilling its ambition to become the leading bunker port for sustainable fuels.
