Solazyme supplied its innovative algal oil to scientists at UC San Diego, who in turn used these sustainable oils to create an algae-based surfboard. The surfboard was publicly unveiled and presented to San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer just before Earth Day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-52048\" src=\"http:\/\/www.biofuelsdigest.com\/bdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/mayfield2.jpg\" alt=\"mayfield2\" width=\"425\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the future,\u201d Solazyme noted, \u201calgae oil will not only allow surfers to enjoy an environmental sustainable surfboard, but construct their boards in a way that can make them more adaptable to different kinds of surf, surfing styles or even the surfer\u2019s weight.
