In New Delhi, Hardcastle Restaurants, an operator of a number of McDonald’s locations, is replacing plastic cutlery with wood and plastic cups with paper. Straw will also be made from paper or biodegradable materials made from corn starch.

The rollout has already begun across key cities in Maharashtra and Karnataka, Hardcastle tells India Times it is working on alternative solutions for its delivery segment as well.

“As the leader in the Quick Service Restaurant space in India, we are committed to using our scale for good and working towards finding sustainable solutions across our business. This is in line with McDonald’s global vision of building a responsible business,” adds Ranjit Paliath, Senior Vice President, Business Operations & Restaurant Enablement at Hardcastle Restaurants.
