Amyris adds operations chief

In California, renewable chemicals firm Amyris has appointed Eduardo Alvarez Chief Operating Officer.

Alvarez has over 30 years of experience. He served as Global Operations Strategy Leader for PwC and has held positions at General Electric and AT&T. Amyris added the COO position to help support continued strong revenue growth.

“With the successful transition of our Company into one of the fastest growing sustainable health, nutrition and personal care ingredients businesses in the world, we are now in need of operational leadership to support our growth,” says John Melo, Amyris president and CEO. “Eduardo’s skill set and successful record of accomplishment in delivering company growth will be essential as we evolve from delivering over $100 million in annual revenue to reach and sustain $500 million in annual revenue.”

Alvarez holds a Master of Business Administration with honors from Harvard University, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in computer control and manufacturing from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering with high honors from the University of Michigan.

Eduardo will report to Melo. His appointment is subject to approval by Amyris’s Board of Directors at its upcoming quarterly meeting.
