In France, Deinove and Greentech have signed a codevelopment and marketing agreement for new skincare active ingredients produced biotechnologically.

Under the terms of the agreement, R&D teams from both companies will test new active substances from Deinove’s panel of extremophile bacteria, which includes the Deinococcus genus. They will also work on production, purification, and formulation of several compounds. The companies aim to bring the first ingredient to market by the end of 2018.

“In our developments we aim to leverage the extraordinary ability of microorganisms to build mechanisms of adaptation and resistance in extreme environments: hot, cold, hypersaline, radioactive, acid, basic, etc,” says Greentech CEO Jean-Yves Berton. “Deinove’s bacteria are unique and can bring real added value to our portfolio of ingredients intended to protect and beautify the skin.”

Greentech’s portfolio includes over 100 active ingredients for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and nutraceuticals that are derived from plants, algae, microalgae, and microoganisms. Deinove’s strain bank includes 6,000 rare bacteria that have not yet been exploited, mainly of the Deinococcus genus/
