In Georgia, burn care specialist company PolyMedics Innovations, is partnering with Kerecis, a regenerative skin manufacturing company based in Iceland. The partnership allows Kerecis to sell their Omega3 Burn product, a fish skin that helps regenerate human skin and heal skin wounds, in the U.S.

Using codfish skin has been shown in their clinical trials to work more effectively than traditional skin harvesting products like cadaver skin, pig skin, and cattle pericardiums (the membrane enclosing the cow’s heart). Fish skin does not transmit any disease to humans, unlike the other methods, which means the fish skin doesn’t have to be processed as much and retains its natural properties like beneficial Omega3 fatty acids that aid in healing the skin wounds. This offers severe burn and wound patients a skin regeneration product that is closer to human skin, resulting in quicker healing and less infection rates than current mammal based alternatives.
