UK study shows chickens convert feed into meat more efficently with added glycerol, a biodiesel byproduct

In Northern Ireland, the BBC is reporting on a trial by scientists that shows that chickens are more efficient at converting feed into meat when glycerol, a biodiesel by-product, is mixed into their diet with  traditional wheat and soy. The study showed a normal amount of food consumption and weight gain.

In India, the Emerging Biofuel Market in India report is projecting strong growth in the country through 2018 as the impact government mandates and rising oil prices drive demand, with ethanol consumption is predicted to grow at a faster pace during the forecast period (2009-2018). Bunge to build up Itaqui as alternative Brazilian ethanol port

In Brazil, Vale and Bunge have announced a partnership to transport 26 Mgy of Bunge ethanol in 2010 via Vale rail to the Itaqui port in Maranhao state. The port will be an alternative to the more southerly ports of Santos and Paranagua.
Bunge is expected to ship up to 79 Mgy through Itaqui by 2012.

Abengoa to complete three new ethanol plants in Netherlands, US in Q1 2010, expands global capacity to 687 Mgy

In Spain, Abengoa Bioenergy said that its three new ethanol plants will become operational in Illinois, Indiana and the Netherlands in the first quarter of 2010. The Rotterdam-based plant will have a capacity of 126 Mgy, while the two US-based plants will have 100 Mgy in capacity.

PetroVietnam orders ethanol equipment, engineering solutions from Alfa Laval for cassava ethanol plants

In Sweden, Alfa Laval announced that it had received a repeat order from PetroVietnam for $14 million in equipment and engineering solutions for a PetroVietnam ethanol plant in northern Vietnam using cassava as feedstock.

UK’s Aston University receives $5.53 million grant for diesel miscible biofuel development

In the UK, Aston University’s Bioenergy Research Group has received a $5.53 million research grant to transform residues from biofuel production processes into diesel miscible biofuel (DMB). European Biodiesel Board says US producers shipping lower blends to evade punitive tariff

In Belgium, the European Biodiesel Board is claiming, in a Bloomberg report, that US biodiesel exporters may have commenced shipments of biodiesel blends at B20 or lower blending ratios, to escape punitive tariffs of up to $351 per ton on higher blends.
