Algae to biocrude, using wastewater, demonstration project opens in New Zealand

In New Zealand, Minister of Energy Hon Gerry Brownlee opened a wastewater algae to bio-crude oil demonstration project. The project combines NIWA’s scientific expertise on advanced wastewater treatment and algal production pond technology with Solray’s bio-crude oil conversion technology and is hosted by Christchurch City Council at the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Nigerian Cassva Growers Association signs 8 million ton delivery contract; ethanol for cooking stoves envisioned

In Nigeria, the Cassava Growers Association signed a $371 million, 8 million metric ton supply contract with Cassava Agro Industries Services. The Cassava Agro project will supply ethanol for home cooking, lighting and power generation for 4 million families, via 10,000 small scale installations.

Petrobras acquires 50 percent stake in BSBIOS biodiesel plant in Brazil

Inbicon opens 1.4 Mgy demonstration cellulosic ethanol plant in Denmark

In Denmark, Prince Joachim inaugurated the 1.4 Mgy, demonstration-scale Inbicon cellulosic ethanol plant in Kalundborg, which is utilizing wheat straw as its initial feedstock. In Argentina, Braskem announced that it has signed an agreement to supply sugarcane ethanol-based polyethylene to  Argentine plastic packager Petropack. In the Philippines, Roxas & Co. announced that it will commence production during the month of February at its $34 million, 7 Mgy sugarcane ethanol plant in La Carlota. China Integrated Energy completes IPO, expects to have 100% biodiesel offtake

In China, China Integrated Energy received an “outperform” rating from Cowen and Company after concluding that the company would sell its entire biodiesel production from its 100,000 tonne biodiesel plant, thereby expanding overall margins. The company, which completed a successful IPO last month of 5,000,000 shares, realized $26.9 million from the offering.
