In Italy, leaders at the G8 summit expressed support for the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) target of 50 percent reduction in emissions by 2050. Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the UK and the US, as well as China and the European Union leadership, attended the summit meetings. ICAO has established a 50 percent reduction target compared to 2005 emissions, a target also agreed by IATA members earlier this year.
