New Zealand’s Green Party smells victory on sustainable biofuels

In New Zealand, the Green Party said that it is positive about the role of sustainable biofuels after the national government said it would support Green legislation on biofuels sustainability.

The Green introduced the Sustainable Biofuel Bill banning fuels made from food crops, involving the destruction of  biodiversity, or biofuels that did not materially reduce carbon emissions. The bill requires both imported and locally produced biofuel to meet the sustainability standard, to comply with WTO rules. The bill is available for review here.
