NIMBY update: Not In My Ground, either; Ohio residents protest carbon sequestration

Not in My Underyard. In Ohio, 700 residents of Greenville and other communities in Darke County have joined a protest against a carbon sequestration project that will inject CO2 from a local ethanol plant 3500 feet below the surface. The residents said they are concerned about potential problems with the injection process.

According to News Talk Radio Ohio, “the sequestration would involve “capturing carbon dioxide gas from an industrial source, compressing it into a semi-liquid state called a supercritical fluid, and injecting it at least 2,500 feet below the Earth’s surface into a permeable, porous layer of rock.”
