Sirona Fuels commences jatropha plantation in Haiti
Earlier this year in California, Sirona Fuels acquired Oakland’s Blue Sky Biofuels with its 15 Mgy permit for waste vegetable oil-based biodiesel, and said that the new company would expand based on new sources of WVO, plus a jatropha oil venture that will initially focus on Haiti and later expand to India and other countries.
In Haiti, Sirona Fuels said that it has commenced jatropha plantation in a joint venture with 3C Missions, an relief fund focused on children. The company said it will intercrop and has planted numerous strains to test productivity. The company is planting in cooperation with local farmers rather than taking land ownership.
Sirona Fuels is headed by veteran renewable energy attorney Paul Lacrouciere, who said that the company will develop a series of jatropha development partnerships and affiliates to bring jatropha-based biofuels to market in the US.
