Jet biofuels headed for flight certification in 2010: Boeing

The New York Times is reporting that biofuels for jet use could be approved as soon as next year. The report quotes Billy Glover, Boeing’s environmental strategy chief, who said that the technology is now in place and the industry is now waiting for biofuels producers to deliver fuel in sufficient quantities at affordable prices. Glover said that Boeing and its partners will release test data from its series of test flights next month, and expects the fuel to be certified with a year.

The CEO of Targeted Growth, Tom Tadaro, said that algae biofuels are eight to ten years away as jet fuel, while camelina is ready and could uspply up to 1 billion gallons of oil when fully deployed in the US.
