House Ag Chair says has votes for Renewable Fuel Standard Improvement bill; may block climate change bill
In Minnesota, Grist has profiled efforts by House Agriculture chairman Collin Peterson to block the Waxman-Markey climate change bill unless the Congress also passes the Renewable Fuel Standard Improvement Act which would revoke the rules on for implementing the Renewable Fuel Standard proposed by the EPA.
“I’ve told them I want this passed. I want it signed by the President before I’ll support anything else,” Grist reported Peterson saying in a telephone interview.
Grist also reported that Peterson believes he needs 37 Democratic votes to defeat the Waxman-Markey bill; meanwhile the proposed Renewable Fuel Standard Improvement Act has received support from the top Republican on the ag committee as well as all 29 Democrats.
