White Energy files for Chapter 11 protection for its 260 Mgy in ethanol output

In Texas, White Energy has filed for Chapter 11 protection, citing excess supply and high raw material prices for “minimal or non-existent profit margins” at its three ethanol plants with a combined capacity of 260 Mgy.

The company generated more than $500 million in revenues in 2008 from its 50 Mgy milo-based ethanol plant in Russell, Kansas (acquired in 2006), a 100 Mgy  corn and milo-based plant in Hereford, Texas (opened in 2008), and a 110 Mgy corn and milo-based plant in Plainview, Texas (acquired in 2006).
