Biofuels Center of North Carolina awards more than $850,000 for cellulosic ethanol, feedstock projects
In North Carolina, the Biofuels Center of North Carolina awarded more than $850,000 to the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University for projects related to improved cellulosic ethanol production processes and improvements in feedstock cultivation and yields.
University of North Carolina-Charlotte received $150,295 in partnership with the Catawba County Regional EcoComplex and Resource Recovery Facility in Newton for technology to improve cellulosic ethanol yields from crop and lumber mill waste.
North Carolina State University received more than $700,000 for projects including evaluating sugarcane miscanthus and paper mill sludge as bioenergy feedstocks, starting a sweet sorghum industry on marginal land, and a feasibility project with Lignol Energy on cellulosic ethanol opportunities using pine wood.
