Allard R&D readies ethanol “mini-refinery” suitable for munis, farms and ranches

In Texas, Allard Research and Development announced that it has completed design on a “mini-refinery” ethanol production system suitable for capabilities to business, municipalities, farms and ranches. The company is offering a fully automated and a manual production system that produce ethanol in a small unit that is computer controled.

Sustainable Power hydrogen on demand system raises Ford F350 mileage to 40 mpg in test

In Texas, Sustainable Power announced that in a three-month test conducted in the Dominican Republic, a Ford F350 hydrogen on demand system averaged of 40 miles per gallon, compared to a previous 8 mpg average with conventional fuels. Sustainable Power produces power and hydrogen as outputs from its biomass-based thermochemical conversion process.

Former DARPA head joins Qteros board

In Massachusetts, advanced biofuels developer Qteros announced that Dr. Anthony Tether, former director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has joined the company’s board of directors. Tether served as DARPA director from 2001 until this year.

European Commission proposes five-year extension of punitive tariffs against US biodiesel

The European Commission has proposed a five-year extension of punitive, anti-dumping tariffs on US biodiesel, according to a report published in Reuters. Ardent Energy to acquire 15,000 hectares in Ethiopia for jatropha biodiesel

In Ethiopia, Ardent Energy Group announced today an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MOARD) of Ethiopia to transfer 15,000 hectares, approximately 37,000 acres, to AEG for the purpose of cultivating jatropha and castor.

South Korea’s Eco Solutions, Eco Global Bio-Oils to invest $175 million in Philippine biodiesel production

In the Philippines, South Korean biodiesel producer Eco Solutions and Eco Global Bio-Oils announced that they will invest $175 million in a 9.6 Mgy biodiesel plant in South Cotabato that will utilize jatropha grown by  Eco Solutions from an 11,000 hectare plantation that will be expanded to 100,000 hectares.
