In Florida, an exploding 50,000 gallon ethanol tank at Bartow Ethanol closed the plant, but the fire was controlled in less than two hours and no injuries were reported, although the plant was evacuated. The tank contained 1,000 gallons of food-grade ethanol at the time of the explosion, which also forced the evacuation of three nearby businesses and required crews from three fire stations to control.
An investigation into the cause of the explosion is now underway.
