Amyris green diesel registered for sale by EPA; first drop-in fuel from biomassto receive EPA approval

amyris-1In California, Amyris announced that the US EPA has registered Amyris’ renewable diesel fuel for commercial sale.

The EPA’s registration of Amyris fuel is the first time that first “green diesel” or renewable diesel, fuel made from biomass that can be distributed as a “drop-in fuel” using existing fuel infrastructure, has been approved for sale.

Amyris said that its renewable diesel blended with petroleum diesel meets the ASTM D-975 specifications for petroleum diesel fuels, works well at low temperatures, and contains virtually no sulphur ot harmful aromatics. Amyris also indicated that their green diesel contains less soot, NOx, and carbon monoxide emissions than petroleum fuels.

Amyris was ranked #7 in the 2008-09 “50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy” rankings published by Biofuels Digest.
