Novozymes prepares for expected US enzyme demand surge with cellulosic ethanol commercialization; ramps up at new $200 million Nebraska plant
In Denmark, enzyme manufacturer Novozymes announced that it has placed a $6 million order for membranes and heat exchangers with Alfa Laval as part of its construction at the new plant in Blair, Nebraska. The company also ordered similar equipment for its plant in Jiangsu, China, as it increases production capacity for an expected surge in demand as cellulosic ethanol production ramps up over the next 1-5 years. Alfa Laval said that it will be delivering the equipment next year to the Novozymes plant, part of an overall $200 million investment by the Danish enzyme leader as it readies to deliver commercial- enzymes to its customers by next year from the new facility.
