Financing still sought for $14 million pilot bioenergy plant in South Carolina; Clemson, Savannah River National Lab among partners
In South Carolina, the Clemson University Restoration Institute, the Savannah River National Laboratory and other partners in the South Carolina BioEnergy Research Collaborative said that they are seeking up to $13 million to construct a pilot-scale biofuels plant in Clemson. The plant will test ethanol production from feedstocks that can be feasibly grown in South Carolina including algae, sweet sorghum, switchgrass and pine.
Other partners in the Collaborative are: James E. Clyburn University Transportation Center at South Carolina State University, Dyadic International, Fagen Engineering, and ethanol distributor The Spinx Company. The Department of Energy has committed $1.2 million to the project.
