In Colorado, OPX Biotechnologies announced that it has raised $17.5 million in third round funding from Braemar Energy Ventures, Altira Group, X/Seed Capital and Mohr Davidow Ventures for its technology that produces bioacrylic and biodiesel from sugar and syngas using its proprietary microbes.
The company owns technology that allows it to test out million of genetic modifications to its microbes, and speed development of technology breakthroughs. OPX said it can make bioacrylic 20 to 50 percent cheaper using sugar as a feedstock than existing technology, a $10 billion global market.
