Today in Biofuels Opinion: “A brief history of the science behind U.S. biofuel policy.”

Russ Finley: A brief history of the science behind U.S. biofuel policy. 1998: A study done by the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) for the DOE (Department of Energy) and USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) calculated that biodiesel made from soy beans was 78% carbon neutral. This study, which was meant to promote the use of soybeans for biofuel helped to kick off a biofuel craze.” (More in this roundup when you click through – caution, strong reading for friends of biofuels.)

Tom Buis, CEO of Growth Energy: “The report released by SCOPE today is nothing more than a selective compilation of disputable research attacking biofuels.  What is clear is the authors of this report prefer to include speculative theories about biofuels production rather than empirical research conducted by serious academics…These ‘convenient’ omissions put serious doubts into the credibility of this report and the intentions of it authors.”
