In California, Capitol Weekly has published an excellent short analysis of the Golden State’s proposed Low Carbon Fuel Standard including a review of the storm over indirect land-use change impacts that has set supporters of biofuels against sections of the environmental community.
The article reviews the contention of a 111-scientist group that indirect land-use change analysis is in its infancy and should not be included until that analysis is more robust. Conversely, supporters of the analysis said that “Engineered product systems such as biofuels produced on arable land carry risks to human health and Earth’s climate; those risks are uncertain, but a variety of methods are available for their estimation.”
