Enerkem announces 20 Mgy cellulosic ethanol project in Mississippi

In Mississippi, Canadian biofuel developer Enerkem announced plans to construct a second-generation, multi-feedstock biofuels plant in Pontotoc. The Enerkem process will convert 60 percent of the 189,000 tons of municipal solid waste received at the Three Rivers landfill into transportation fuel, chemicals and renewable power.

The total facility investment will be $250 million and will generate 150 long-trems direct and indirect jobs as well as 300 construction and start-up phase jobs. The plant is expected to produce 20 Mgy of cellulosic ethanol and an undisclosed amount of power from its advanced gasification technology.
