In Colorado, Lightning Hybirds announced that it will debut its LH4 model, that has reached 100 miles per gallon fuel efficiency based on a biodiesel-electric hybrid engine. The LH4 sports a 90 horsepower, 2-cycle engine, and will be available at retail by 2010 with a price tag of $39,000-$59.,000. Lightning Hybrids is a competitor in the X Prize 100 mpg competition sponsored by Progressive, that will award a $10 million prize to the company that first develops a 100 mpg vehicle.
