At World Biofuels Markets, International Energy Agency executive Antonio Pflüger said that if no action is taken, by 2050, coal demand will increase by 192 percent, gas demand will increase by 138 percent, and oil demand will grow 65 percent, with a 130 percent increase in global CO2 emissions. Pfluger said the world is far from running shot on oil, but that growth in reserves will depend largely on increase in the oil recovery rate from 35 percent today. The IEA is projecting that biofuels will account for 26 percent of all transport fuel by 2050, and will use 11 percent of global arable crop land to do so.
