In Washington, President Barack Obama said that his administration would work with Brazil on development of ethanol and acknowledged the tension between the two countries over the US ethanol tariff, but said “It’s not going to change overnight.”
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told CNN “I can’t understand, while the world is concerned with climate change and with carbon emissions…clean fuel also gets tariffs.” Brazil has threatened to take the US to the World Trade Organization over the tariff policy, but so far has not carried through on the threat.
