Overview on aviation biofuels: cost-competitive, sustainable, drop-in fuels 2-3 years away
A concise but comprehensive report on the state of aviation biofuels was published in Reuters. In the report, Air New Zealand chief pilot said that biofuels will need to be environmentally sustainable, be a drop-in fuel replacement for kerosene and be cost competitive with current aviation fuels.
The CEO of Terasol Energy, which supplied jatropha oil for recent test flights by Continental Airlines and Japan Air Lines, said that the airlines are acutely sensitive to using biofuels that do not compete with the food supply chain for productive land, and opposed deforestation. The director general of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines, said that, “We have to be realistic about timescales, but two or three years ago it looked 20 years away. Now, I think we are two or three years away.”

It is hard to believe that the Bio Jet Fuel derived oorm the Bio Plant oil will be chaeper than the moneral Jet Fuel Kerosen A-1.
The cost of Bio Plant Oil is directly related to the mineral Crude Oil prices .
All energy crops for Bio Plant Oil require significant in put of Petrochemical related fertilzier in the cutivation and also the mineral energy to process and transport.
If we would look back to the past record. There is not any moment that the prices of any Bio Plant Oil are at the lower price level of the moneral Crude Oil prices.
At the historic peak of Crude mineral oil price at usd 147 per barrel. The peak price of all Bio plant Oil are having the historic high as well.
The sharp rising price of the Bio Plant oil are even worse than the rising price of the mineral crude oil.
With this hard fact.It will be almost impossible that the aviation industry would expect the lower cost of the Bio Jet Fuel (SPK).
