Michigan’s Traverse City school district abandons biodiesel over cost, slude concerns

In Michigan, the Traverse City School District has abandoned a five-year biodiesel program, citing cost concerns as well as a build-up of sludge in its school bus tank storage system that it said will cause another city appropriation to pay for clean up. The B5 biodiesel blend has been phased out and the school district said that it will use a $150,000 EPA grant to install new emissions controlling devices on its buss that will reduce carbon monoxide emissions by 40 percent.
