California Ethanol & Power completed a direct impact lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions analysis, and concluded that its proposed process would consume 95 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than comparable quantities of petroleum-based fuels. The company, which plans to construct a 60 Mgy sugarcane ethanol plant in Brawley, also announced that it would create 77 to 83 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than are created by Brazilian ethanol used in California. The analysis was performed using the Argonne National Laboratory’s GREET model.
