In California, the California Energy Commission awarded a grant to QuantumSphere, to develop and test an an algae biogasification system using nanometals as catalysts. QuantumSphere, which develops advanced catalyst materials, said that it will build a pilot-scale platform to test the process, which it envisions using to convert algae blooms in the Salton Sea to biofuels. The grant comes from the CEC’s Energy Innovations Small Grant program.
