Genencor launches next-gen enzyme package; will reduce cost of cellulosic ethanol production
In Denmark, Genencor announced the launch of its next-generation cellulosic ethanol enzyme, which it called Accellerase 1500.
The company said that the new generation of enzymes would reduce the cost of producing ethanol or biochemicals from cellulosic feedstocks, by reducing costs associated with the hydrolysis step of converting biomass to ethanol or other biochemicals. In this step, plant material is broken down into sugars for fermentation to ethanol.
Genencor has a two-pronged strategy for supporting cellulosic ethanol, including the sale of Accellerase as part of its dedicated enzyme business, and the joint venture DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol, which develops and provides integrated technology packages for biomass ethanol production.
