Today in Digest discussion groups: “The world-wide necessity for topsoil preservation is too important of a long-term goal to consider sequestering stalk material for energy.”

At LinkedInAnthony Dodson: Alternative Fuels Network Project Manager at Walmart Stores. “As far as potential for success in any type of food crop-to-energy pathway…in my opinion, it shouldn’t even be considered. The world-wide necessity for topsoil preservation is too important of a long-term goal to consider sequestering stalk material for energy rather than as a carbon and nitrogen fixing agent in the soil. For non-food agriculture – grasses are apparently viable for 2nd gen ethanol production, but I don’t believe it has a long-term ROI since it’s tied to the internal combustion engine. When I say long-term, I mean 10 + years.”
