California’s SG Biofuels launches with sustainable oil focus, largest collection of jatropha genetic material
In California, jatropha oil venture SG Biofuels is now underway, based in hot biofuels corridor in San Diego. SG CEO Kirk Haney formerly helmed Green Millennium, is a 15,000 hectare sustainable teak plantation in Central America.
The company’s science team, under Dr. Robert Schmidt, includes three members of the National Academy of Sciences and the company announced that it has developed the largest collection of jatropha genetic material in the world after a two-year sample collection effort. The company will develop jatropha oil plantations initially in Central America, based on partnership with major local landowners as well as smaller landowners utilizing land that has been abandoned due to overfarming.
