DuPont confirmed that its two DuPont BioFuels projects, in cellulosic ethanol and biobutanol, are on track towards commercialization.
Last May, DuPont partnered with Danisco to form DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol and are constructing a pilot and demonstration facility in Tennessee utilizing corn cobs and switchgrass as feedstock. The pilot plant is expected to open later this year.
The company formed a partnership with BP in 2006 to produce biobutanol, and said that they expect to have a pilot facility open this year, with a “commercial biotechnology package complete by 2010 at economics comparable to grain ethanol.”
