Ethiopia aims to expand sugarcane ethanol production as it grapples with energy dependency

In Ethiopia, the Minister of Mines and Energy announced that national ethanol production will increase to 38 Mgy by 2013. The minister, Alemayehu Tegenu, said that sugar plantations in the country will be undertaking ethanol production, which stands today at 750,000 gallons per year. The minister also said there will be increased domestic petroleum exploration, as the country attempts to address its net energy deficit.
