In Brazil, Petrobras said that it will commence operation at its Montes Claros Biodiesel plant in Minas Gerais by the end of the first quarter, ahead of its original schedule. The state oil company said that it has sold contracts for 400,000 gallons of biodiesel for first quarter delivery.
12,900 farmers are providing feedstock for the Montes Claros plant, which is one of three that Petrobras is developing for biodiesel production. The other two plants, Candeias in Bahia state, and Quixadá in Ceará state, are under development.
